"Excellent quality, super sharp, well balanced"

Solid Utility Knife

"I'm actually quite enjoying this knife. It's got a fairly substantive handle, which I appreciate as often the handles on utility knives are small and uncomfortable. If I had to nitpick, there are two less than ideal things about Messermeister Oliva. 1. The blades do scratch very easily, not a big deal to me as functionality is the name of the game, but it is something to note. 2. The handles are raw wood. Typically for a knife like this it would make more sense to use stabilized wood or at least put a finish on it. But again, not a huge a deal to me as taking care of wood cooking utensils is normal part of my kitchen life. Otherwise, great knives and still worthy of 5 stars. It came razor sharp and with a little honing, has stayed nice and sharp. It's a solid knife and enjoyable to use."

Beautiful Knife

"Perfect size and heft. I have a Japanese utility knife and the blade feels too thin. I hope to add other Messermeister knives to my collection."

Overland Cookery Recommendation

"My son is the chef/owner of Overland Cookery and recommended I upgrade my kitchen knives with Messermeister knives. In addition to the 6" Utility Knife I purchased several new Oliva Elite knives and love them all. They are beautiful and functional--perfect!"

Kathleen B. (5/5)

Not straight

"For the price of these knives and how they’re manufactured i’d expect them to be straight. Excellent knives but at the price point i’d expect better."

Tyler S. (4/5)

Overall, nice knives.

"Attractive knives, great handles but they are not as sharp as I expected for the cost. Overall pretty nice knives though."

Beautiful, Sharp, High Quality Utility Knife

"As with all of the Oliva Elite knives, the olive wood handle is extremely comfortable, finely finished, aesthetically pleasing, and a makes the knife a joy to hold and use. I expect to own and use this knife for the rest of my life so for me that makes it well worth the price I paid for it. Care and Maintenance: I hand wash this knife with soap and water and dry it with a towel before putting it away. I use a honing rod after using the knife and before putting it away. This knife will stay sharp for a long time if you use a honing rod, and it will sharpen up well (sharper than new) on ceramic whetstones when needed. I applied a couple of coats of food grade mineral oil (USP mineral oil sold in grocery stores and pharmacies as a laxative) to the handle when I first got the knife to prevent the olive wood from drying out or absorbing too much water. I reapply mineral oil whenever the handle starts to look dry, but you could probably go awhile without oiling if you want to. The attached pictures show the utility knife sitting on a cutting board and stored away in my Messermeister in-drawer knife holder (paring knife in top row, slot 6)"
