Pro Series Wide Chef's Knife - 8 Inch

I have had very good luck with several Messermeister knives, including a number from the Pro Series. I was impressed with the quality and value of an earlier order and was intrigued with the "wide"chef series. At this point I have a month or so with the 8 inch and find myself reaching for it from my knife block most of the time. The handle is very comfortable and provides a secure grip that also allows excellent control. To me the blade shape is reminiscent of Bob Kramer's knives. The Pro Series has good steel that is easy to sharpen, takes a razor edge and holds it well. And did I mention the price? These knives are very attractively priced and well worth it, in my opinion.

My favorite knife, I use it morning and night. I have 5 or 6 pair of tongs that I use on a regular basis too.

I have several of these knives and love to give them as gifts. They’re the perfect all around chef knife.

Great sharp

I've been using the my Messermeister Meridian Elite knives since I started culinary school more than 20 years ago, and they served me well in both professional and home kitchens. And they still do, I haven't found a better chef's knife in all that time that has been better than the Meridian Elite, especially for the price. I got this Four Seasons 6 inch model simply for those times when I need to prep on a smaller cutting board or where counter space is limited and my 10" is simply too much knife for the job. I generally prefer forged knives over stamped, but I trust the Messermeister brand for quality consistency, so I decided to give this inexpensive little knife a shot. It arrived pretty sharp, but not quite to my standards, so I did have to go a few passes on the stones before I put it to use, but that's not a problem for a knife in this cost range. This little knife performs very, very well, and my wife and nieces fell in love with it instantly, as they have always found the Meridian Elite to be a bit too large and unwieldy in their hands. The shorter, and much lighter 6" here really allows them to put in quite a lot of prep without the normal wrist or hand fatigue. And for a stamped blade, it actually has a very stout spine which lends itself to the overall strength of the blade and gives the user a safe and stable place to place your other hand if you're trying to get through something particularly tough, like lobster shell. And since it's so affordable, I'm never worried about it getting beat up or dropped, or even lost. If any of those situations come up, I could have a replacement within a week. Huge fan of this little knife.

Awesome knife, great quality for its price

Look, it's not a $700 custom-made Japanese style knife. But it's $20-odd bucks, and for most people, it's going to be pretty good.

Great value, perfect thickness

Has become my favorite chopping knife when preparing tons of veggies and meat for my huge pots of winter soups.

Grey knife. Great height. Handle may be bulky if you have small hands.Used in professional work atmosphere.

Where to start.....the knife is what it cost a 30 dollar tool it's a decent choice for a utility knife because of the blade height which is good cuz it can be used for most kitchen task .the edge out of the box was pretty bad and the spine is crazy thick so it wedges instead of slices it does have its plus durable , cheap and most of all the blade height

Great knife for the price, easy to handle and use. Razor sharp out of the box, no need to touch up or sharpen. Great beater or beginner knife for use in a professional kitchen and home use. Does have a wide height compared to other chef knives, so enough knuckle clearance for those who have big hands.

Got this as the first decent knife for my family's home. Ever since we got it, we all use it as much as we possibly can. So long as you keep it sharp (it even holds an edge decently well), it'll serve you like magic. Couldn't be more happy with the purchase.

Love the knife holds its sharpness after multiple tasks completed in a restaurant kitchen.Only con is that an 8in knife guard doesn’t really fit it because of the width difference compared to the other messermeister knives.

I used to work in a kitchen. This is a good knife, I'm still on the first sharpen, though it gets dull, the honing steel keeps it good.

Including my finger. Very comfortable in hand. Large enough to make quantities at once rather than several small piles.Quality product for reasonable price. I have several Messermeister knives, absolutely no regrets.

Not good not bad. It doesn't fit in my knife rack because the blade is so wide. The grip is kinda cheapo ugly. I don't find the blade to be very sharp.

The best brand in knifes. Easy to sharpen yet strong steel! You don’t need to spend much time on the sharpening stone.

We had 3 of these chef knives in the professional kitchen where I used to work, and they were my favorite out of all the knives we had available. Great grip, perfectly aligned blade, holds a sharpening for quite a while before needing to be re-honed, and is an all-around well-balanced knife, always my go-to. And as an added bonus (and this part is important LOL), it comes in the apple green that matches all the other utensils in my kitchen! After working with these knives for 3 years, I had to have one for my own home kitchen. We also had the Messermeister bread knife in our commercial kitchen, and that will be my next knife purchase for my home kitchen, as well!

Perfect knife esy to sharp

Excellent product as described.

Was larger than I expected it but functional. I would recommend for larger cutting and carving. Quality of blade seemed high, was very sharp. I might put a heftier handle on it.

We've used this knife for two weeks now. I love to cook and consider myself to be pretty good at it, considering I have the right tools for the job. My old set of knives had wooden handles which would slip when wet, and my knuckles would get crushed when chopping. This does NOT slip and rocks back and forth properly with every effortless pass. This knife comes out of he box super sharp but we've sharpened it once already because of its heavy use. It's our last knife and only knife

I bought this to replace one that got damaged. The original was damaged for using something it was not intended for.

Great, chef's knife and the price is right too!! I love Messermeister products in general very well made. Just make sure you buy the blade guard as well if you don't have a block for it.

2 years later and I am still using this knife! This knife works very well for the price and has been perfect for me since I got it around Christmas 2 years ago. I have purchased a Knife sharpener to keep this knife its sharpest, and it has never disappointed me.

Great knife ..especially for big jobs like splitting large fruit and veg that you would usually struggle with a smaller knife .. It has also came quite handy to split frozen slipper lobsters in half with no damage or resistance and also whole chickens and large roasts for smaller portions .. I highly recommend this knife for large jobs

The Four Seasons line is an affordable line from Messermeister. They now are made in Portugal from the same steel as the original line and are just as sharp!!! Keep these knives locked if you have kids. Sharpen with a steel and or good sharpener(Smith's, Messermeister or Wusthof). DO NOT use to cut frozen food as these need a frozen food knife(hardened and thicker blade). Last, watch where your fingers are when you are holding the food. Messeremeister knives are very sharp.

Best knife i have ever used

An excellent value 10' chef's knife. Blades like this usually cost quite a bit more. Simple, solid, inexpensive.

I had the same design Messermeister knife a few years ago (purchased in Australia, but I don't know why that would matter). That one was incredibly thin and held a very sharp edge. It also broke when we foolishly used it to chop turkey bones (get a cleaver!).This one, its replacement, shares the magnetic holder with a Victorinox 10", and I reach for the Victorinox at least 80% of the time. I do appreciate the wider blade on the Messermeister, but the way the handle connects to the blade on the V knife seems to work better with my (large) hand.Overall its a good knife, and may be a great one for you depending on your preferences. Either this or the Victorinox serve as abundant proof that spending $100+ on a knife is unnecessary.

I've had this knife for over a year and it has performed well. It's obviously not a professional chefs knife, but it's perfect for a typical home cook. Make sure you keep it sharp with some honing steel (sometimes called sharpening steel) before every use, and it will last a very long time.I haven't tested other knives, so I don't know how this compares, but I'm very happy with it.Edit (July 2018): This product seems to have more than doubled in price since I got it and wrote this review... I probably wouldn't recommend it at this price. You can do better for the money.

It has replaced a couple cutco knives that will now go to my son. We're now buying more Massermeister knives.

This knife is just perfect for the quality and value. It is a must have and you will use it all the time.

A very well balanced knife with a handle that is well suited for spending long hours at the cutting board. Design works well for chopping large volumes - outperforms many much more expensive knifes. Make sure you buy a blade guard with it, because it's probably too wide to fit in your standard knife block.
