this is the biggest piece of crap i have ever found online! you should be ashamed that you are associated with them!

Bought it for my sister for her birthday. She loves it.

At first, we had trouble getting it to light. Raw butane came out the nozzle. Then when we finally did get it to light, the hands free button would not engage, making it impossible to use the torch. Would not recommend this item, and would like to return for a full refund.

Works flawlessly. No complaints at all!

This is a nice torch if I could ever get it to work again. I am unable to locate any user manual on the internet. What is the trouble?

It worked well for a couple of month. Now the safety gets consistently stuck, and becoming increasingly difficult to use. Any suggestions?

This thing is f*#%*%# crazy! Watch your eyebrows bc this will put all other torches to shame. The flame setting lets it go from lighter flame, to wielding torch. It’s no joke, I bought it expecting to be a little better then my last one but it completely blows it out of the water. It’s a must have to any kitchen! It’s only runner up is probley an actual wielding torch.

Torch looks great. Instructions very clear. This may be a Germany company but "Taiwan" is listed beside the barcode.. very small lettering. So where this is made, I am not sure.

I've owned 3 kitchen torches and this is the best of them. Easy to fill and easy to use.

I went through several cheap home torches trying to find something that could put a nice char on sous vide proteins.Everything was either a complete failure or a major disappointment. So I decided to spend a few extra bucks and try out the reasonably well reviewed Messermeister.From first glance I knew i had something different. It was huge for a home culinary torch and the handle was seemingly big enough to hold a full bottle of butane.Initially tried it on a sous vide steak which after cooking looks like the first picture above-- delicous but lacking eye appeal and outside texture. Using Vector butane it gave out a long powerful blue flame and produced an almost char broiled sear on my meat after a few minutes.It was one if the best steaks I ever cooked.Docking it one point because the flame occasionally goes out and it won't auto relight when it gets hot. By a combinanation of frustration, trial and error and plain dumb luck I discovered that simply blowing into the nozzle strongly a few times seems to get it autostarting again-at least for awhile. So try that if it happens to you. YMMV may vary of course.Recommended.WARNING: ONLY USE A WELL REFINED BUTANE! I found that out the hard way. Bought some cheap zippo type butane and the flame was less than half the length of the one pictured above with a very small blue hot area. It took nearly a whole bottle to semi char a t-bone.

Quality product. Sturdy construction as well as easy use makes this torch a good buy for amateur chefs. The instruction manual could be a little clearer, and the refill nozzle could be a little more accessible, otherwise no issues.

I love this torch and the flame is not to strong. Perfect for creme brulee and melting cheese. If you are like me, then you won't be able to buy butane off of amazon cause of where you live. So I had to go to home depot or a smoke shop and buy some there.

I think I might be having too much fun with this torch. I'm sure I'll use it for more stuff later, but so far I enjoy ordering unbruleed creme brulees at whole foods so I can watch the sugar bubble at home.

Torch works well once lit. More than half the time it doesn't light when you push the button. I have read and reread the instructions. The flame length is set to medium, I am setting the safety lever down and depressing the button all the way. The torch is full of fuel. It's just annoying that it sometimes it takes four tries to get it going. Each time, you can hear the fuel coming out but its not lit. This was a gift and wasn't usedright away, so I can't return it for a more reliable one. It's fun to use when working properly. The first time I used it was for lighting 18 candles on my daughter's birthday cake, lol (probably not recommended). She said it was dope :)

Bought 3 of these for Christmas gifts. Two worked as advertised and did a good job with creme broulee. One was DOA. Would not light.

Works just like I was hoping it would. Starts very easy. Just fallow simple instructions. So far mine has started every time first attempt. Very easy to fill. Flip unit upside down. Flip butane upside down to meet unit. Press butane nozzle into receiving valve. Press butane can to fill unit until fuel comes out of fuel area,simple.

Works as expected. Built is a bit flimsy short of my expectations.

After having gone on a cruise where creme brulee was served after every meal, I decided I could not live without the stuff in my house. Simple to use and refill ( I got the Zippo refill cans from here at Amazon) this torch allows me to have my creme brulee fix whenever I want to. I also use it to light my smoking cans for my pellet smoker. Now that I own this gadget, I am constantly finding uses for it.

Easy to fill; easy to use; very safe as well as you have to flip a back switch to make it work. Once you release it, that switch must be flipped again. Great product.

Pretty well made, though the safety lock feature engages a little too easily for my liking and for such a small torch it requires a fair bit of two handed operation.

Disappointed, I ordered this thinking it was better output but it isn't. Check your descriptions carefully lol. Nothing wrong with the product but get a better one for Creme brûlée or the time crystallizing will soften the custard.

This torch produces a nice strong flame, more than enough for any culinary purpose, and the push-button ignition is easy (although not 100% reliable). There is a safety lock which needs to be flicked down before you can push the ignition, a good safety feature. You can also lock the flame "on" by sliding the button on the left side, which is useful for longer jobs as it can be tiring to hold down the main button. The rubberised base is very useful, keeping the torch solidly planted on whatever flat surface you put it on, and the textured reservoir means the torch is not likely to slip out of your hands even if you have sweaty or wet palms.Mine has been working well for several months now, however I have noticed that it seems to have a very slow leak somewhere, meaning if I don't use it for a couple of weeks, I'm likely to need to re-fill it. This is not particularly confidence-inspiring, and I've knocked 2 stars off, as it can also be a bit of a safety issue (my leak is very slow, but what if you get one with a faster leak, or keep it in an enclosed space where the gas can't escape as fast as it leaks out?).I have used this torch for tasks such as searing the side of thick steaks, creme brulee, crisping up fish skin, and it does all that perfectly. If it weren't for the issue above re: leakage, then it would be a 5 star item in my books. Unfortunately, it seems Messermeister has cut corners, and this is disappointing.

I've been using a cheapo butane torch for a few years, and it finally gave out. Since I use the thing on a virtually daily basis, I decided to go ahead and get a really nice one.Now, this thing seems better constructed than the cheapo one I had, but to get a good score it has to be SIGNIFICANTLY better than it. And it is not.First, the top part is plastic. That's kind of sad.Second, the angle. As the picture shows, the thing is pretty much at a 90 degree angle. That makes it a bit harder to point at things that are flat on the counter.Third, it has a "flame control" switch that... I'm not sure what it does. You need two hands to use it, and that's a problem while using the thing! And it basically... turns the jet into a regular flame?... I'm not sure what that's for.Fourth, and this is the biggest problem - it barely EVER turns on first go. My cheapo one? Turned on every time. This guy? I've had it for a couple of months, and I think it's only turned on on the first try twice.On the other hand, the storage tank is fantastic. I've only had to refill the thing a couple of times in two months. So there's that.

Meh, works nice for the most part. I bought this to create the Malliard effect on beef for sous vide cooking. My expectations were likely too high, so I guess the product is probably very good for what it is was intended for.I noticed a lot of reviews complaining about the reliability of the ignition system. Yes, it is a problem. HOWEVER, the solution is very simple:The ignition wire gets hot and warps. This causes it to "ground out" and misfire onto the ceramic insulator and seek out the metal shroud. All you have to do is gently tweak it back into the path of the gas flow and it works far more reliably. Not perfect, mind you, but much better. And you will have to do it somewhat frequently. Don't b*tch and moan about this, it is simply MAINTENANCE! I doubt you will find a comparable torch that doesn't require the same upkeep, so ignore the whiners. They simply don't get that adjustments are part of owning nearly any mechanical device, and it is a very simple "fix".Very nicely made in terms of fit, finish and (once you get it) reliability.I wouldn't buy it again for browning a steak or a roast, but it is most definitely a well made product that will work very well if your expectations are realistic.P.S. - I did wait several months and went through quite a few refills before submitting this review. I didn't want to slam a product because it didn't do what I wanted, I decided to wait to see if it performed as promised. It does. Just remember to be realistic about its capabilities and that it will need frequent maintenance. I gave it 5 stars because it does what it says it will do. I am curious about making creme' broulee now, as I think this is likely ideal for that, and other similar tasks. Good little torch...

It's a little lightweight and the starter is finnicky. I wound up replacing it after I damaged it during cleaning, but it worked okay for what it is until then.

I got this torch for my girlfriend a couple months ago and it still works great. The flame doesn't get as big as those customer images but that could be dependent on the fuel. It handles great, nice aesthetic and it works well for dabbing. The triggers once you get used to using them are well done and have multiple settings for the desired flame intensity. Great product overall. If you have the money to buy it definitely do so.

Too much plastic for the monies we paid. Also, it does NOT come with fuel. It's extra.

This butane blow torch is very powerful and useful for cooking and a number of other projects. I love almost every aspect of it except for how the refuel valve was designed. I may have received a defective product but when I tried refueling this torch with the Vector 14x butane fuel, most of the gas would spray out the side no matter what nozzle adapter I used that came with it. The torch would last for about 5 minutes and then need another refuel. Well I ordered some Newport butane due to the abundance of nipple adapters and I was successfully able to fill the torch to full with one of the tips. The thing is, it had such a good seal that it wouldn't spray out the side when it was done, thus I accidentally filled it till the hissing sound stopped and the pressure equalized between the butane can and torch. Well I let a bit of butane out and stored it away for later. Well next time I grab it and flip the switch, I get a 5 foot flamethrower in the kitchen (scared the daylight out of me) and almost burn down the house. I know it was 4-6 feet of flame as it reached across my kitchen. Now I know why you don't overfill this thing. The pictures I attached are of the torch operating. The first picture is what the blue flame is supposed to look like. The other pictures are what it looked like shortly after the 5 foot flame in my kitchen. I wasn't able to catch the initial flamethrower surprise in my kitchen and I don't want to overfill it again. Anyway, it's been a fun and useful tool but it seems that not all butane cans will be able to refuel this thing.

Used daily for 9+ months.. BLOWS away Cuisinart bed bath and beyond torches.. Those break almost instantly, not sure how they are even produced.. I have been using vector 12x filtered with this and have had no problems at all.. Flame is nice and lasts long time.. I use this product for a few minutes everyday so I need something reliable..

This is a great Chef's torch -- I have used it numerous times since purchasing and I don't hesitate to recommend it for use.

I was looking for a cooking torch to ignite cooking pellets in my Amazon Pellet Tube Smoker 6". I was using a butane torch compact lighter before. That worked very slowly, and the pellets would sometimes go out before really starting to smoke. I'd usually spend 5 or more minutes getting the pellets to light. NOT ANY MORE!!! The Messermeister FT-912 torch burns so hot and with such a long intense flame that the pellets are literally blasted into a bright ball of fire within seconds! Now I spend about 5 to 10 seconds torching the pellets to get them going. I then turn off the torch and let the pellets burn for another ten seconds before I blow out the flame and let the smoking commence. The torch works beautifully every time. All of the switches and levers feel very robust and do not move once you set them. The torch body stays cool other than the business end of the nozzle. I've used it about a dozen times now and I'm always impressed. I've also used it for melting the ends of cut paracord. The clean flame does not discolor or burn the paracord, but be careful as it would be very easy to overdo it. Refilling the torch is simple, just flip it over and press the butane can down on the filler port. This was not the cheapest torch I looked at buying. But it certainly earns the high praise it receives on Amazon and is worth every cent. Could you get by with a cheap torch? Sure. But, it won't last as long, work as well, look as good, or make you look for an excuse to fire it up like the Messermeister does.

I bought this for my husband to use for finishing meats cooked with his sous vide, and we have been very pleased with it so far. Easy to use, great locking feature so that you don't wear your thumb out holding the button, and puts out some serious heat. Would definitely recommend!

First as always shipping was fast and great.1) Feels nice and heavy, good solid metal feel. I think most of it is aluminum2) Holds a Butane really well but doesn't have a level indicator, not a big deal to me.3) I like all of the switches except for the front one that allows you to control the air flow. You have to manually hold it at any position besides the initial position. So if you are looking for a less intense yet still a large flame you are required to hold the position there while you also hold the torch.I use to light my fireplace and BBQ pellets for my smoker or grill. It works great for those and I have no intention to use it in the kitchen, my wife maybe but I am not that good of a cook so.All and all it was well worth the money and I would buy it again in a heart beat.

It quit working-the push button wontbudge

My wife loved this kitchen tool and immediately put it to use in preparing our Christmas dinner. Our son, who is a professional chef took one look at it and declared that it should be his. I offered to order him one but my wife, being a mother, insisted that he take hers. Goodbye wonderful kitchen tool. Very high quality. Clean easy operation. Fills easily as well. Easily regulated heat control. One fill of gas lasts for hours. It makes you look like a pro. I intend to order another.

This is my second torch - I use the power of this tool everyday in my workshop. It covers all high temperature uses that are lower than a propane or Mapp torch. Waaaaay better than the little electronics grade torch, I use it for heat shrink tubing, softening epoxy putty, bending 1/4" steel rods, sealing raw ends on cut webbing, tons more. SPFX artists dream torch. Doesn't hurt that it looks so nice as well !!!

IT is WONDERFUL!!!!

WOW. This torch is an absolute animal. Has a safety lock in back, easy flame control on right side and a lock switch to keep the torch on on the left. I am in fact using this for "dabbing" so you know I'm using this thing a LOT, and when I do use it it's for prolonged periods of time. This is definitely the best torch I've ever found on amazon for the price, I have zero complaints. Very very good quality and just feels good in your hand while other brands are clearly inferior just by the way it feels. Conserves my butane too and even with lots of dabbing I rarely have to refill this, and the lowest flame setting will get glass nails plenty hot in 10-15 seconds, quartz is a breeze and TI is ready to dab for just a little longer under heat.I am CERTAIN that if this torch can withstand the life of a dabber with no problems, it can get any other reasonable job done just as well. 5 stars

I so love this great quality easy to use!

This is my first blow torch so I can't compare it to others, however, this is a solid-feeling and very handsome torch. It lights "the first time" and is easy to fill and control. I first used it to sear a pot roast and was pleased with how easy it was to use and get just the right color. It has a very large fuel chamber that is claimed to flame for more than an hour per filling. I filled it with the "Vector" brand refined butane gas. I guess I shouldn't say this, but I later used this torch outside to instantly terminate a number of wasp nests. I won't be buying any chemical wasp sprays now. I love to cook and am just getting into the sous vide cooking method that needs either a torch or hot grill to crisp the foods after cooking.

Bought this on September of 2013 and still working as good as the day I bought it. While my other friends are buying name brand torches that do come with some kind of warranty, they are still always breaking. I work at a headshop and I get returns on Newports and Stoks(vector knockoff) pretty often. However this bad boy meets 2 Star Michilen Chef standards, then it shall definitely meet my highly concentrated and dabbled standards

So far working great. I have only used the torch a few times for smashed potatoes & toasting the top of veggies. Quick easy way to make food taste toasted and add different layer of flavors. Melts butter nicely on top of food. I can't wait to try making creme brulee. I can't yet comment about durability .

Not used yet, these are Christmas presents but they appear very nice.

Hey Chef's... This is a beast! This is the one you want if you dab-ble in desserts like creme' brulee'. ;) Be careful the flame can get really long with Concord like jet engine sound effects. SMOKES THE COMPETITION! Worth every penny.

This is a nice mini-torch, even though the ignition housing is not metal. It has an extremely large fuel storage capacity, which allows for more use time between refills. The foot base has enough play in it so that you can angle the flame upwards. The torch comes equipped with the standard safety lockout switch, slide flame adjuster, and spring loaded intensity modifier.

So far I love this torch. I am using it mostly to create artistic jewelry (and for culinary uses, etc.). It came with easy to follow instructions. The burner is made of sturdy metal and is longer and thicker than the burner on the defective Blazer GB2001 which I returned for the Messermeister FT-912. The Messermeister's peizo ignition has ignited the first time and every time I have pushed the button (unlike the Blazer which stopped igniting after two ignitions). The Messermeister's flame appears to be more powerful and adjustable than the Blazer's flame (specs support my impression of the Messermeister's flame intensity).Messermeister says they are an American company, but this torch is made in Taiwan. It is not made in Germany as another reviewer alluded, but I can see why they thought it is a German torch based upon the quality of the torch especially the durable construction of the burner and the reliability of the piezo igniter I am experiencing so far.I've only had the torch for a few days now, so I will post a followup giving you more positives and negatives after more use (hopefully this torch will not become defective like the Blazer...but only time will tell).***UPDATE*** As of 11/20/14, my Messermeister FT-912 is still working perfectly for me. I've been using it for jewelry making and the flame is still powerful and the flame size adjusts nicely like the day I received it. So far, I am very happy with my purchase and the Messermeister has turned out to be a great torch for jewelry making (and for cooking too!).

Works great for Cigars. I use multiple times a day and it's very dependable. The flame is robust and extends 4' - 6" from the igniter so be careful pointing at your face. Flame is adjustable. As with most lighters it is best to "bleed" air out of the tank before refilling. A little pricey but worth the investment. Would recommend to all Cigar Smokers. Always use a 4x - 5x filtered fuel.
